PROJECTS
CURRENT GRANTS
Community Garden Educational Project
The West End Neighborhood Association received a grant from the National Recreation Foundation for a 3 year cycle. The grant proposal involved the 3rd graders from the Microsociety Magnet School, volunteers from the West End and students from Arkansas State University. The Community Garden Project involves approximately 125 school children from the local elementary school in our neighborhood. One of the main goals of the project is to teach the children about gardening and growing vegetables that they can eat. The program starts in the spring and continues until the end of May. The garden project resumes in August when school begins and continues until the end of November. The students involved in this project are on a fully funded meal program and are from lower/middle income families. The benefits from this teaching garden include exposure to gardening and growing vegetables from seeds and small plants. This activity reinforces working with their classmates. The outdoor classroom sets the stage for participation and hands-on learning activities in the garden.
Safety Lighting Project
The West End Neighborhood Association was awarded a CDBG grant through the city to provide additional street lighting to enhance the safety of the neighborhood. We will be continuing this grant for the 2020 grant cycle. We are excited to partner with CWL to provide the additional lights for our neighborhood.
Park Safety Initiative
The West End Neighborhood Association was awarded CDBG grant funds for 2018 and 2019 grant cycles to provide security cameras at the CWL Park and Micro Society School playground. These two locations have 24 hour surveillance that tie into the JPD and at the school the SRO officer will have access during the school day.
CWL Playground

Our first major CDGB grant was awarded to provide new playground equipment at the CWL Park in 2014. The CWL Park is the oldest park in the city of Jonesboro and is in the heart of our neighborhood.
CWL Pavilion

In 2016 we were able to partner with the city and use CDBG funds to create the pavilion that is at the CWL Park.
Walking Trail

We honored to announce a new grant opportunity that was awarded from the National Recreation Foundation. We are in the process of creating a walking path around the perimeter of the CWL Park. Phase II will include a couple of exercise stations and Phase III will include two more stations and group exercise classes at the park.
